Not long after the official roll-out of its online book store, Spotify recently announced that it is expanding its digital ecosystem today with the launch of guided workout experiences, Which integrates fitness routines with its existing product offerings. This allows users to access professional training content without leaving the Spotify app.
As stated, the new expansion will include curated playlists and video content from leading wellness creators, in addition to a new partnership with Peloton. The deal gives Premium subscribers (in select markets) ad-free access to a library of over 1,400 on-demand classes, including workouts without the need for special equipment.
According to Spotify data, fitness is already a primary driver for the platform, with over 150 million active fitness playlists globally and nearly 70% of Premium users working out monthly. Roman Wassenmuller, vice president and global head of podcasts at Spotify, says:
For nearly two decades, Spotify has been the soundtrack to workouts around the world. But listening was only the beginning. Today, we’re expanding Spotify to become a true daily wellness companion. By bringing thousands of creators and partners like Peloton directly into our video and audio ecosystem, we’re investing in a future where Spotify isn’t just where you spend your time – it’s where you go to build momentum, improve your well-being, and get more out of every day.
Additionally, the new fitness integration allows users to start a video workout on a smart TV, for example, and then switch to audio for an outdoor run. To access the new feature, users can simply search “fitness” within the app to enter a dedicated hub. While the Peloton catalog is reserved for Premium members, both Free and Premium customers will have access to extensive Wellness Creator content.
It should be noted that the fitness sessions are currently available in English, Spanish and German, as well as offline download options.
