A shocking report related to the Sri Lankan cricket team has come out. Two Sri Lankan under-19 cricketers have been accused of making a video of people taking bath in a hotel in Colombo. Based on the complaint of a woman, the police arrested both the under-19 cricketers. Later, he was released on personal bail of LKR 500,000 (about $1,564).

However, the investigation is still going on. According to latest reports, the police are investigating whether the young cricketers had shared any of the videos online, which they had recorded on their mobile phones. The players will have to be in the court on May 25 for the next hearing of the case.

    Two Sri Lankan cricketers arrested

“Two Sri Lankan Under-19 male cricketers have been arrested for filming people bathing in the hotel where the players were staying in Narahenpita, Colombo. Both players have been released on personal bail of LKR 500,000 (about $1,564) each,” ESPN reported.

“The cricketers were arrested earlier this week after women staying at the hotel complained that they were being filmed using mobile phones in their bathrooms. Sri Lankan police told ESPNcricinfo that Narahenpita police are currently investigating whether any of the videos have been shared online. After being produced at the Aluthkead Magistrate’s Court for a preliminary hearing, the players are due back in court on May 25. The SLC has issued its own No disciplinary measures have been announced.”

Mass resignation puts SLC in danger

The report comes at a time when Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) itself was in crisis for more than 48 hours due to the mass resignation of officials from the office including the Board Chairman. Due to increasing allegations of corruption, top officials of the SLC, including the Chairman himself, resigned from their posts. A new committee of officers and officials is yet to be announced.

“The President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Shammi Silva has resigned from his post, with effect from today. Along with him, the office bearers and members of the Executive Committee of the SLC have also submitted their resignations,” read the official statement issued by the board.

“This decision has been formally communicated to His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Honorable Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage,” it said.

    Why did the President resign?

Shammi Silva met the country’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and discussed the situation and the increasing pressure on him for a long time. It is believed that Silva and his colleagues decided to leave their jobs on the board at the request of the country’s President.

At present, a new ‘Change Committee’ has been formed to deal with this unique situation. According to multiple media reports, the newly formed committee will be led by MP Aron Wickramaratne and will include famous cricket personalities like Kumar Sangakkara and Roshan Mahanama.
