The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs has become absolutely crazy after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pulled off a dramatic last-ball win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Raipur on Sunday (May 10).
At one point it seemed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) might face another heartbreaking defeat, but the defending champions somehow managed to score 15 runs in the final over and snatch the win from the hands of Mumbai Indians.

That thrilling win not only took Royal Challengers Bangalore to the top of the IPL 2026 points table but also officially knocked Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) out of the tournament. RCB now have 14 points from 11 matches and top the table with an NRR of +1.103.

Now, with only a few crucial matches left in the league stage, the battle for the IPL 2026 playoff spots has become more intense than ever. Eight teams still remain in the race, but from here on out every match can completely shake up the points table, with the net run rate deciding who survives.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, currently sit comfortably at the top with 14 points from 11 matches and a strong net run rate of +1.103. RCB now needs one more win in their remaining three matches to seal their place in the playoffs.
However, they will aim to finish in the top two in the table. If RCB is successful in making it to the top-2, then they will get two chances to reach the final through the qualifiers.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad remains one of the strong contenders for the playoffs. SRH also have 14 points from 11 matches, but their net run rate (+0.737) is slightly lower than RCB. Now Sunrisers Hyderabad need to win two of their remaining three matches to secure their place in the playoffs.
SRH’s upcoming IPL 2026 clash against RCB on May 22 in Hyderabad could turn out to be one of the biggest matches of the season, as it will decide not only their playoff fate but also their hopes of a top-2 finish.
Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans are also tied with 14 points from 11 matches, but their net run rate of +0.228 does not let them feel safe at this stage. GT still need at least two more wins from their remaining three matches to make it to the top four this season.
Gujarat Titans’ next game against SRH on May 12 could decide the future of both the teams in the playoff race. The result of this match will put one of the two teams in a difficult position, where they will no longer be able to achieve a single win in the tournament.
punjab kings
Punjab Kings is sitting in a very strong position. They have already collected 13 points from just 10 matches, which means they still have an extra game left compared to RCB, GT and SRH. Two wins from their remaining four matches will take them comfortably into the playoffs. If PBKS manages to win three games, they will definitely finish in the top 2 in the table.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings are facing severe pressure despite a five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in their latest match at home. CSK are currently placed fifth in the points table with 12 points from 11 matches and a net run rate of +0.185.
They now need at least two wins from their last three league matches to qualify for the playoffs. But CSK’s net run rate is not very strong, so even 16 points cannot completely guarantee qualification. In such a situation, Chennai Super Kings would like to win the remaining three matches.
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals also have the same equation as CSK. He also has 12 points, but his recent poor performance has badly affected his net run rate (+0.082). RR needs at least two big wins to seal a place in the playoffs. Looking at the current situation, they may directly fight with CSK for the fourth playoff spot.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders still have a small chance, but they will now have to win all four of their remaining matches. Even a defeat could almost end KKK’s IPL 2026 playoff hopes. Seventh-placed KKR have 9 points from 10 matches so far with a negative net run rate.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals are still alive mathematically, but their chances are extremely slim, having lost 8 of their 11 games, and then their huge negative net run rate won’t help them at all.
DC needs to win every remaining game and also improve their poor net run rate. Along with this, Capitals also need many other match results to go in their favor.
