GameHub is one of the best PC gaming apps, but now it’s been accused of copying

    Hadley Simmons/Android Authority

    TL;DR

    • A developer has claimed that the team behind GameHub copied his code without attribution.
    • GameHub developer Gamester denied the initial claim, but other developers have also accused the studio of copying.
    • This comes years after GameSir was embroiled in controversy over stolen code for its Nintendo Switch emulator.

GameSir has recently released GameHub v6.0, which brings several major improvements to the PC game emulator on Android. However, this news was overshadowed by new claims that the company had copied code from other Android developers as part of the development of GameHub.

This latest round of copying allegations was started by the developer stevenmxWho created the Vinlater Ludashi Fork. He claimed that GameHub Studios had copied his work on a Vulkan-based renderer and modeled it as their own. Gameser defended myself on discord (see below) while claiming that its work was independent. It also urged people to decompile the app.

GameHub responds to claims of copying

Obviously, the developer challenge acceptedArguing that GameHub’s decompiled app contains code taken from other developers and projects. These projects include the aforementioned Vulkan renderer, Termux X11, and a Vulkan graphics wrapper that improves support for non-Snapdragon devices. Exclusively from developer Leegu They say He is “95.7% certain” that Gamesar has copied his graphics wrapper work. One of the many clues cited by Leegu is that he used a “specific 6-element push_constant table”, but ended up not using two of these elements. The GameHub app also includes this specific table, including two unused elements.

It is not uncommon for developers to obtain code from open-source projects for use in their own apps. However, the open-source licenses associated with many of these projects often require anyone using this code to release modified code. Indeed, StevenMX urged Gamers to make the emulator open source and publish all code or credit the developers appropriately.

This wouldn’t be the first time GameSir has courted controversy over piracy or unattributed code. The company’s AgNS emulator allowed you to play Switch games on Android, but the company apparently stole code from other Nintendo Switch emulators.

After the company this news also comes Confirmed This fixed a major issue affecting Samsung owners. Specifically, some Galaxy owners reported that they were unable to play games through GameHub after the v6.0 update. It seems that this issue may be related to Samsung’s One UI 8.5 software.

In any case, we have asked for comment from Gamester representatives regarding these copying allegations. We will update the article as soon as the company gives us a response. But between GameNative, GameHub Lite, and Winlator, there’s certainly no shortage of ways to play PC games on your Android device.
