I posted a selfie in my most admired coat: a faux fur-trimmed coat from Charlotte Simone Anya Taylor-Joy Is also the owner of. Whenever I walk down the street, strangers follow me to compliment the coat. And yet when I posted this photo of me wearing the coat in my living room with a Nina Ricci hair bag on my arm – I didn’t get any compliments on the coat. Instead everyone was asking me: Where did you get the bag?
The Nina Ricci hair bag in question was medium sized and partially covered in animal print. The straps are long and the shape of the bag is also long. It fits everything I need for the day and more, but doesn’t look bulky. This is essentially the perfect bag for everyday and I love how the animal print adds some funkiness to any look. Obviously, this looks great with statement coats too.
When I originally wore the bag, I was really into it Copenhagen for Fashion Week and the reaction was exactly the same as I get when I wear the above Afghan coat. People would tap me on the shoulder on the street or come up to me in cafes to ask about the bag. This is exactly the kind of bag that you look at and immediately feel the desire to have it.
I think the best thing about the bag is that it has an interesting shape which is not cumbersome. It’s not weird for the sake of weird. Instead it has the kind of silhouette that feels more like a beautiful statue than a bag. That detail is exactly what makes this an ‘it’ bag waiting to happen.
The ball bag feels like a new take on the bowling bag. On Nina Ricci’s website, it is said that creative director Harris Reed chose the name, “to evoke both the world of debutante balls, a place of preparation, presentation and self-affirmation, and the shape, circularity and movement of the bag.” It looks beautiful like a newcomer but is also confident which is what makes it different. That’s why it attracts attention in whatever room I take it to. And it’s only a matter of time until everyone else starts taking notice. Obviously, they already have and I know they’ll be taking show-stopping selfies in their Le Bal bags in no time.
