- Samsung didn’t make many Galaxy Z Trifold units, and after last-call sales, the innovative foldable was officially sold out.
- Rumors point to a successor to the Galaxy Z Trifold in the works with a redesigned hinge that could reduce the thickness and weight of the device.
- While the new hinge design is rumored to first arrive on the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, a less advanced version may appear on the Flip and Fold models.
The Galaxy Z Trifold is an attractive and expensive foldable that quickly turned into a limited-run product for Samsung. The company held a last-call sale for the Galaxy Z Trifold earlier this month, and as of today, April 17, the foldable is officially sold out. Samsung’s Official Galaxy Z Trifold landing page Confirms that “the limited run of the Galaxy Z Trifold is now completely sold out,” with buyers directed towards the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Galaxy S26 Ultra instead. Although the short-lived foldable with a 10-inch internal screen is no longer available, rumors about a successor are already swirling.
Early signs indicated that the Galaxy Z Trifold was a unique product for Samsung, but now, rumors are indicating that a Galaxy Z Trifold 2 is in the works. especially, leeker lanzuc (yeux1122) A second-generation Galaxy Z Trifold model is claimed to be in development with a redesigned hinge. Although we don’t know exactly what Samsung might be working on for the new Galaxy Z trifold hinge, we do know that the goal is to make the follow-up model thinner and lighter.

Samsung broke major foldable thickness and weight barriers with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which was 8.9 mm thick when folded and weighed just 215 grams. The Galaxy Z Trifold, in comparison, was pretty impressive, measuring 12.9mm thick and weighing 309g. Of course, this can be easily explained by the Galaxy Z Trifold’s dual-hinge design and larger 10-inch primary display. However, it’s clear that if “trifold” phones ever go mainstream, they’ll need to be thinner and lighter — and that starts with the hinge design.

The rumor claims that Samsung is aiming to introduce this updated hinge design on the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, which is still unconfirmed. It is also predicted that Samsung will implement a slightly improved hinge with “some technical adjustments” to the regular Galaxy Z Fold models. This could make the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip models thinner than their predecessors, even without the completely overhauled Galaxy Z TriFold 2 hinge.
Since the Galaxy Z Trifold 2 is still in the rumor mill, it’s unclear whether it will ever release or not. Or, if it will reportedly sport a “completely new hinge solution” in development. There was buzz about the Galaxy Z Trifold despite its high price, heavy build, and limited production, so it would be nice to see Samsung address those aspects of a potential successor.
