Royal Challengers Bangalore reached a special moment on April 18, 2026, as they became the first team in IPL history to play 100 matches at the same venue. The historic incident took place at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, during the afternoon match against Delhi Capitals.
This date made it even more special. Exactly 19 years ago, on April 18, 2008, the first IPL match was played at the same venue. From that opening game to this milestone, the journey has been complete for the Bengaluru franchise.
A ground that defines RCB
Unlike many teams who have changed positions over the years, RCB has stuck to Chinnaswamy. It has been their main home since the league began, building a strong bond with the fans and creating the loudest atmosphere in the IPL.
To mark the occasion, RCB wore their special green jersey. It is part of their annual “Go Green” campaign, which spreads awareness about sustainability and environmental care.
Virat Kohli’s unique record
The most touching part of this milestone belongs to Virat Kohli. He is the only player to appear in his first match at this venue in 2008 and his 100th match in 2026.
Kohli also dominates the record books on this ground. He has scored over 3,200 runs here, including four centuries and 24 half-centuries, making him the undisputed king of Chinnaswamy.
Numbers and opponent grounds
RCB’s record at the venue shows how competitive they have been. In 100 matches, they have won 48 and lost 46, with some games ending in a tie or no result.
Other teams are close but still behind. Kolkata Knight Riders have played 98 matches at the Eden Gardens, while Mumbai Indians have played 95 matches at the Wankhede Stadium.
From 82 All Out to Champions
There is a strong sense of history in this moment. In its very first match here in 2008, RCB was out for just 82 runs. Now, they are entering their 100th game as the defending IPL 2025 champions.
Due to the schedule change this season, RCB will play only five home matches at Chinnaswamy in 2026. This makes this milestone even more meaningful, as it is one of their final games at the venue this year.
