If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I love goodies Nail polish recommendation. After developing a sensitivity to gel polish a few years ago, I was on the hunt for the best gel nail alternatives. I’ve tried almost every nail polish at my local drugstore. You name it, I painted it on my nails.
And after discovering Essie’s Gel Couture Top Coat, I haven’t looked back. Layered on top of Gel Couture nail polish, they provide chip-free manis that easily last up to 10 days (or sometimes up to two weeks). They’ve become my go-to pair for long-lasting manicures, and I’ve even had friends mistake them for gel nails. They look and feel absolutely thick and shiny on my nails, and you’d never guess they’re nail polish.

IMO, Fairy Taylor is just too pink. It’s a perfect milky nail color with a hint of light pink. It’s translucent, so I like to apply two layers for more opacity and a milky effect. It actually brightens the nail plate, so it acts like skin color for the nails and adds shine to your natural nails. It applies easily and also dries very fast. But most importantly, it leaves a shiny lacquer and thick finish that looks and feels similar to gel polish. I find it also acts as a protective shield for my weak and brittle nails.
I finish it off with two coats gel couture top coat (£12). I would highly recommend pairing it with this nail top coat, as it really makes a difference in how well it lasts. If you apply another coat on the seventh day, you can easily keep your manicure for about two weeks.

The polish contains “Flex.E Gel Technology”, which adheres to the nail and moves with your nails to prevent breakage. However, unlike gel polish, it is easy to remove with regular nail polish. I wore the Fairy Tailor shade and top coat on a recent trip where I was taking a suitcase with me, and despite being pretty heavy with my nails this week, I only had a tiny chip. So I am seriously impressed. If you’re looking to switch to a nail polish that rivals the longevity of gel polish, this is one of the next best things you can try.
