Local police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska this week.
Omaha Police Officers Association A Facebook post on March 13 said A “person of interest” was taken into custody on March 12 after the alleged murder of Deacon John Jack the previous night.
Jack “was an active member of the community and was a deacon at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in the city’s Leavenworth neighborhood,” the police association said.
Father John Broheimer, pastor of St. Peter’s, said a statement The parish website states that Jack has been a member of the parish for more than 30 years and has served as a deacon there for 25 years.
“Through his ministry he touched countless lives, especially the youth of our parish, whom he served with generosity and true faith,” the priest said.
The priest urged parishioners to pray for Zak’s family and to “support them with your donations in the coming days.”
Police did not publicly identify the motive for the murder until March 13. Local news reports state A “family member” named Martin Jack was booked into the local jail on charges of murder and felony theft.
Jail records showed that a man named Martin Jack was being held without bond.
The Archdiocese of Omaha did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the tragedy.
