How the technology works
The feature builds on Google’s ongoing investment in AI-powered photo editing. if you have tried AI editing tools for photos like Magic Eraser or Portrait Light You probably know by now that Google uses machine learning to handle most of these types of tasks.
Now, the tech giant is using this approach for faces by analyzing lighting, texture and tone, then suggesting natural-looking adjustments. You don’t need to manually select or edit fields; The app does this automatically.
The important thing is that these tools are built into the existing editor. This means you don’t need a separate app or any additional steps.
Google’s official announcement says that the feature is gradually rolling out across the world. To access the tool you will need an Android device running Android 9.0 or higher with at least 4GB of RAM.
The feature is expected to come to Android devices first, with wider availability coming later.
Android Central’s Tech
Being able to quickly clean up a photo without having to deal with a lot of sliders is helpful, especially when you want a good photo for social media. This makes it easier to look more attractive in photos, which many people will appreciate. Still, this is another example of AI deciding what your face should look like, and most of us just tap ‘Apply’ without thinking too much. Although this is convenient, it also takes us to a place where ‘natural’ photos are no longer actually natural – they are more processed versions of reality.
