(Qualified News) – American trust in Congress has hit a near-record low, according to a new poll from Gallup, with just 10% of American adults approving of how lawmakers are handling their jobs.
The survey found that 86% of respondents disapproved of Congress – matching the highest level of dissatisfaction ever recorded. The findings reflect deep frustrations across the political spectrum as legislative gridlock continues in Washington.
Analysts pointed to several contributing factors behind the disappointing numbers, including the ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and stalled momentum around the proposed “Save America Act,” a high-profile voter ID bill backed by Republicans.
Approval of the current 119th Congress briefly rose to 31% in March 2025, but has declined steadily since then, underscoring growing public dissatisfaction with both parties’ inability to advance key priorities.
Within Republican ranks, pressure on Senate leadership to advance the legislation has intensified. Some conservatives have called for the “talking filibuster” or even abolishing the filibuster rule altogether. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has so far resisted those efforts.
The Gallup poll was conducted between April 1 and April 15, polling 1,001 American adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
