A brief statement released by the royal family said King Charles welcomed The Māori Queen, Te Arikinui Kuini Nga Wai Hono I Te Po, to Buckingham Palace on Thursday.
A photo of the guest meeting the monarch was also shared on the royal family’s official Instagram account. It did not say what was discussed during the meeting between King Charles and his guest.
Māori Queen Kīngitanga, or Māori King, is the leader of the movement.
Crowned in 2024, the 28-year-old is the movement’s seventh emperor and second queen.
Kingitanga is a cultural body for Māori tribes, separate from King Charles’s role as New Zealand’s constitutional head.
