Senator Bill Cassidy has lost his primary in Louisiana, a blow to his voters.
But now he has thanked them for their support.
In critical comments on social media, GOP politicians say, “This will be the last part of my campaign for some time.”
Despite suffering a surprise defeat on Saturday night, Cassidy shared, “To those of you who worked on the campaign and volunteered on the campaign. I thank you. I am indebted.”
As his support base grapples with the crushing defeat, he promised them that he would “continue to work with you for the good of our country, our state.”
Cassidy’s defeat has been celebrated by Trump – the GOP lawmaker voted to convict the president for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Hopefully all the great Republican people of Louisiana, where I won big three times, will vote Bill Cassidy out of office in the upcoming Republican primary! President Donald J. Trump.”
