Authorities are reviewing articles linking a suspect accused of shooting near a White House correspondents dinner as investigators work to establish a motive.<\/p>\n
The suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, 31, of California, sent a message to family members before the attack, according to authorities cited by CNN. <\/p>\n
The note began: “I would like to begin by apologizing to everyone whose trust I abused,” and added: “I do not expect forgiveness.”<\/p>\n
Investigators say the message expressed political anger and indicated an intention to target administration officials.<\/p>\n
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanch told CNN that the suspect “fired two shots” and wounded a Secret Service agent wearing a protective vest before being taken into custody.<\/p>\n
“We are still trying to understand the motive. Our initial investigation appears to indicate that the suspect was targeting members of the administration,” Blanch said.<\/p>\n
Authorities say the suspect traveled from California to Washington carrying legally purchased firearms. They are now investigating his social media activity and background, including reports of political activism in recent years.<\/p>\n
The suspect faces charges including aggravated battery and assault on a federal officer.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
