There is also a slight chance of rain in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains Thursday morning and afternoon, according to the forecast.

Kittel said winds are expected to become stronger late Wednesday through Thursday, especially in mountainous and desert areas, with gusts of 25 to 35 mph.

No impact as far as flooding or falling of trees is expected, he said.

Many areas will probably remain dry, Kittel said, and areas where rain will fall may see less than a quarter-inch. The chance of rain increases in Orange and San Diego counties to the south, he said.

Forecasters are then predicting a warming trend, with high temperatures expected to remain in the mid 70s to mid 80s for most locations on Friday and Saturday.

There is an additional chance of very light rain early next week, perhaps Monday, Kittel said.

These storms may represent the last gasp of Southern California’s rainy season, which typically ends in April. About 18.98 inches of rain has fallen in Downtown LA since October 1, the start of the water year. This is more than the normal 13.65 inches for this time of year.

Still, California is suffering its second-worst ice drought in 50 years, which experts say is a sign of how rising temperatures from climate change are worsening the West’s long-term water supply problems.

More rain may occur in Los Angeles this week.
