Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Said<\/a> He was “appalled that \u2013 on top of the already serious impacts of the conflict \u2013 the Iranian people are being stripped of their rights.”<\/p>\n

Those hanged include people associated with the protests, members of alleged opposition groups and people accused of espionage.<\/p>\n

Mr Turki stressed that basic security must be maintained even during war.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn times of war, the threat to human rights increases rapidly,<\/strong>Fundamental rights such as protection from arbitrary detention and the right to a fair trial \u201cmust be fully respected, at all times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Stop execution, ensure due process<\/h2>\n

The High Commissioner called on authorities to “stop all further executions, prohibit the use of the death penalty, ensure due process and fair trials, and immediately release those arbitrarily detained.”<\/p>\n

OHCHR warned that Iran’s widespread use of national security charges put many individuals, including children, at risk.<\/p>\n

Reports of torture, forced confessions, and denial of legal representation have raised serious concerns about due process.<\/p>\n

Detainees also face harsh conditions, with overcrowding, lack of basic supplies, and limited access to medical care. Jailed Nobel laureate Nargess Mohammadi’s health is reportedly deteriorating.<\/strong>While other detainees have died in custody under circumstances that indicate possible torture.<\/p>\n

Authorities have also imposed one of the world’s longest internet shutdowns, blocking access for 61 days now, making it one of the longest and most severe shutdowns ever recorded.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is denying people across the country access to vital information, silencing independent voices and causing huge social and economic harm.<\/strong>Mr. Turk said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is worsening an already precarious humanitarian and economic situation and must be lifted immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Children in trouble in Lebanon<\/h2>\n

The human toll in conflict is also evident elsewhere in the region. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, children in Lebanon are bearing the brunt of instability and displacement.UNICEF<\/a>) on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The agency warned that children with disabilities face increased risks during the crisis, noting that more than 38,000 are receiving support through the National Disability Support Program supported by partners.<\/p>\n

Among them are 12,000 families \u2013 including 17,500 children \u2013 who have received immediate cash assistance.<\/p>\n
