Last month, the story reversed, with the index rising 35.2% from the beginning of April to market close on Wednesday as investors poured into the sector. <\/p>\n<p>Intel has been one of the standouts. The company had its best day since 1987 last Friday, with earnings topping estimates and issuing encouraging guidance. <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-3\">nvidia&#8217;s<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>    Market cap crossed $5 trillion ahead of its earnings, and <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-5\">Apple<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>The stock rose Thursday after it reported better-than-expected revenue growth in its most recent quarter and its guidance was better than expected.<\/p>\n<p>Many Americans including Chip Darling <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-7\">amd<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>    And <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-8\">micron<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>Like many of Europe&#8217;s leading semiconductor companies, it has also grown. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The semiconductor tape we&#8217;ve seen this month has been nothing short of historic,&#8221; said David Miller, senior portfolio manager at Catalyst Funds.<\/p>\n<p>Miller told me that in the US, the sentiment is supported by the belief that AI demand is translating into real revenue growth, which is pushing up earnings estimates. <\/p>\n<p>Concerns seen over hyperscalers&#8217; massive AI spending plans announced as early as 2026 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/06\/ai-sell-off-stocks-amazon-oracle.html\">There was a $1 trillion selloff in February, but investors have remained steadfast in their resolve in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Continued positive news flow and earnings results from AI infrastructure players have allowed investors to gain a better level of comfort with the size of capital expenditures, turning sentiment positive,&#8221; said Michael Field, chief equity strategist at Morningstar.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Savage, head of market macro strategy at BNY, told me that some of the surge is related to the Iran war, as chip orders have increased in anticipation of supply chain disruptions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"ArticleBody-subtitle\">Ignoring geopolitics?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>But, while the market is pricing in the &#8220;clean narrative&#8221; of growth, it is &#8220;ignoring a huge wall of physical reality,&#8221; Bateman told me.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Iran war has also created serious obstacles, affecting the core of chip manufacturing. <\/p>\n<p>export of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/19\/the-iran-war-is-threatening-supply-helium-what-it-means-for-markets.html\">Helium, a key ingredient in chip manufacturing and other manufacturing processes, is already in significant shortage due to the fighting, and some European companies have faced delays in semiconductor deliveries from Asia due to flight path disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>The US data center buildout is reportedly seeing delays and shortages of key equipment such as transformers.
