razor fold<\/span><\/a><\/span> \u2013 and again at the Razer launch event in Los Angeles this week. Only this time, the company told me everything, and it put everything into perspective.<\/p>\nI got some more information about the US price tag (which is still pretty high), preorder and shipping dates, and some other new and interesting features of the Razer Fold. Overall, given this new information, my sentiments changed from mostly positive to cautiously optimistic. But answers to some questions still remain to be found.<\/p>\n
What’s new in the Razer Fold?<\/h2>\n
For starters, the external screen is a 6.6-inch polarized screen with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. The internal screen will be 8.1 inches, making it the largest in North America. It will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and come with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. <\/p>\n
The cameras will be the same as seen on the Motorola Signature \u2013 ultrawide, 50-megapixel sensor on the main and 3x optical zoom. With the exception of the processor, these are exceptional specifications across the board. I’ll have to wait until I get a full review of the device for actual performance and camera quality, but Motorola did show us its super-res zoom capability.<\/p>\n
Also: I’ve tested every Razr and Galaxy Flip: 3 reasons why Motorola beats Samsung in foldables<\/strong><\/p>\nThis is similar to other phones that have this capability. Basically, you can take a shot with the telephoto camera at up to 100x, and once you open the image in the Gallery, post-processing begins. The result is a fairly sharp photo of something incredibly distant, but it comes with a caveat. <\/p>\n\n\n

Also, I didn’t get a chance to view photos on a larger screen than the Razer Fold. So, while the photo may be good enough for social media, how it holds up under pixel-peeping scrutiny will have to wait for our full review coming in a few weeks.<\/p>\n
Motorola also introduced a FIFA Edition of the Motorola Razr Fold, complementing the FIFA Edition Flip at CES. This is a huge partnership with the world’s most popular sport where the world will play for a title that year. It’s all played very well.<\/p>\n
The $2,000 elephant in the room<\/h2>\n
European pricing was announced in March 2026 at \u20ac1,999 (approximately $2,320, excluding region-based adjustments). In the US, the Fold costs $1,900, which still seems high, even though both the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold live in the same neighborhood. <\/p>\n
In Europe, the \u20ac1,999 price includes the \u20ac100 Moto Stylus Ultra. The Pen Ultra is a great little device that, sadly, isn’t siloed into the phone itself, but it does come with its own carrying case. This is an active stylus that has some great features in its own right, like pressure sensitivity, a quick-action button, and a smart menu of options on demand. In the US, the $1,900 price does not include the stylus, which is quite reasonable.<\/p>\n
Also: I tried Tecno’s modular phone that took the Internet by storm \u2014 and it immediately got weird<\/strong><\/p>\nOverall, while the processor leaves something to be desired (and not really). He<\/em> A lot), otherwise the phone has a lot of firsts, including the first triple 50-megapixel camera ever set on a North American foldable, the biggest and brightest screen ever, and the biggest battery ever. It has a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, and is capable of up to 80W fast charging, which matches OnePlus’s 2023 (and only) foldable, the OnePlus Open.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kerry Wan\/ZDNET<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe phone is slightly thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, and its battery is over 40% larger and charges faster. This phone is no slouch. From now on it’s a strong contender to become my daily carry when I go to trade shows, especially as the camera grip is as promised.<\/p>\n
Third, this phone will likely have a very balanced, all-around great camera experience. Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 200-megapixel main sensor, but after that things go haywire very quickly. Meanwhile, the three 50-megapixel cameras should deliver a more consistent all-around experience.<\/p>\n
Also: Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: I tried both, and there’s a clear winner<\/strong><\/p>\nOne last note on what we learned about the Razr Fold (and the Razr Flip as well), all four phones will support video wallpapers on the cover screen and inside as well. While it’s easy to write this off as a gimmick, I tested it out in April, and it’s actually a pretty fun feature. <\/p>\n
The two limitations are that 4K videos won’t work and videos must be in portrait orientation. This seems strange, because for both the open fold and closed Razr, the screen is square, so it doesn’t matter. We will go with it.<\/p>\n
My shopping advice (for now)<\/h2>\n
Although I was initially very excited to see a new competitor in the big-screen foldable market, now that full details and pricing for the Razer Fold have been revealed, I’m a little less excited.<\/p>\n
But there is one undeniable fact worth considering, which gives me hope. This is a Motorola phone, and the company’s MO has long been planning to launch a phone at a high price and put it on permanent sale a few weeks later. For example, the new Razer Fold has a retail price of $1,900, but will likely see aggressive discounts during major sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday. I hope Motorola follows a similar trend with other Razer phones launching soon.<\/p>\n
So, if you don’t want to spend nearly a couple of big bucks, the best opportunity to buy may come in just a few months – possibly a few weeks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
