He asked me if I would pray for them. I agreed. The day came to meet the couple. I listened to their story for a while and then suggested we start praying.

I waited for a few moments until a word came to my mind. The word was “Uriah.” I knew that Uriah was Bathsheba’s husband and that King David had put Uriah on the front lines of battle, where there was a strong possibility that he would be killed. That is exactly what happened. Basically David murdered Uriah so he could take Bathsheba away from him. Very good! What did all this have to do with the couple sitting in front of me?

I told the couple about the word that had just come to my mind. When I said those words, ‘Uriah,’ the wife immediately burst into tears. ‘Oh God,’ she screamed, ‘I knew you were going to make me confess all these sins.’ She also told how she was married before. While at work she fell in love with another man (her current husband) and collaborated with that man to divorce her from her first husband. Once the first husband was out of the way (divorced, not murdered), both were now free to be husband and wife in front of me. He confessed all kinds of other sins that he had committed. In short, they didn’t have a business problem – they had a sin problem!

Most marketers are unfamiliar with Christian prayer. The idea that prayer is two-way communication with God is new to many people. Receiving answered prayers is not just for particularly gifted Christians. Hearing from God is for every believer.”*

Are there any problems at your workplace? Ask God to show you the source of the problem.

*Personal story shared with Rick Heeren, author

uriah “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20).
