The cabin crew were alerted to the situation just an hour after takeoff from Dakar, Senegal.<\/p>\n

An improvised delivery room was set up in the gallery and in front of the exit door.<\/p>\n

Two passengers, a doctor and a nurse, volunteered to help the woman who was just seven months pregnant.<\/p>\n

Passenger Sandro Pisu, 58, told outlet Il Messaggero: \u201cI was sleeping, but when they asked if a doctor was available, I immediately thought someone had fallen ill.<\/p>\n

The birth took just an hour, amid cheers from the rest of the cabin.<\/p>\n

After landing, the mother and her newborn baby were taken to hospital for further care.<\/p>\n

The plane then continued its flight to Italy.<\/p>\n

“The baby is absolutely healthy and is the first baby born on board an aircraft in the history of ITA Airways,” the airline said in a statement.<\/p>\n

This amazing phenomenon was the latest in a series of babies born above the clouds.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica to the US was forced to make a hard landing after a woman’s water bag broke in mid-air.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a pregnant passenger who is going into labor right now,” a staff member on board said in audio obtained by ATC. CBS News<\/a> Since he requested an early landing slot.<\/p>\n

A ground controller at JFK in New York confirmed that medical personnel would be at the gate upon landing.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Caribbean Airlines praised the professionalism of its crew for managing the unexpected situation and keeping both mother and baby safe.<\/p>\n

Just a few weeks later, another miracle occurred mid-flight on a plane from Atlanta to Portland.<\/p>\n

The baby was born just 30 minutes before the plane made an emergency landing.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, a doctor and two nurses were on board the flight and immediately sprang into action.<\/p>\n
