A British tourist has died after a “freak wave” hit rocks during a morning swim in Tenerife.<\/p>\n

Rose Buck, 56, was on holiday with her family in Costa Adeje, Tenerife when she tragically died.<\/p>\n

Her 39-year-old daughter Chantelle Buck-Forest said her mother was a “strong swimmer” and went to the beach when she learned the pool was closed.<\/p>\n

Chantel said Rose was enjoying a swim on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the blue lagoon, which is usually calm.<\/p>\n

Tragically, a small earthquake struck the island and created a “strange wave.”<\/p>\n

Chantelle said the wave “knocked her mother onto the rocks”, knocking Rose unconscious and breaking her C2 vertebra, before someone on the beach noticed and alerted lifeguards.<\/p>\n

Rose was reportedly underwater for five minutes before being pulled from the water.<\/p>\n

Bystanders tried to revive him before he was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Sadly, doctors decided to take him off his ventilator on March 6, saying there was too much brain damage for him to recover.<\/p>\n

Rose, who was a postal worker, died in hospital on Sunday March 8.<\/p>\n

On February 25, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Tenerife, which Chantelle believes may have caused the ‘weird wave’.<\/p>\n

Chantelle, who lives in Bradford, West Yorkshire, said: \u201cI am completely devastated, I couldn’t stop crying.<\/p>\n

“It’s terrifying. I’m walking around like I’ve been shot in the chest.”<\/p>\n
