in its cover story Marie Claire’s<\/i> In the annual Maternity issue, published Thursday, April 30, Graham, who has been a proponent of body positivity, called the trend of GLP-1 drugs “a blow in the face,” especially when the world is influenced by false body standards.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old American model further said that it is “really disappointing” to see the rise in weight loss drugs, which are setting false standards of thinness in the fashion and entertainment world.<\/p>\n
She said, “There was a pendulum that was swinging this way towards body acceptance, positivity, everyone being who they want to be. And now it’s going back the exact opposite way which feels like a slap in the face to women who felt like they had a voice.”<\/p>\n
The mother of three, who has a plus-size body, said, “It goes with the times \u2013 and GLP-1 is a time… I know there have been, and still will be, women who have always been considered plus-size.”<\/p>\n
Ashley Graham said, “This drug will not eliminate women’s overall health.”<\/p>\n
It is worth mentioning that GLP-1 drugs helped many Americans lose weight by suppressing appetite. According to the National Academy of Medicine, the drug “mimics a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels and appetite.”<\/p>\n
In particular, people suffering from type 2 diabetes are prescribed to take these medications, as they control blood sugar levels and slow down the metabolism which ultimately reduces appetite and increases the feeling of satiety.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
