McDonald’s is gradually removing self-serve soda fountains from restaurants across the United States as part of a long-term change to its dining experience.<\/p>\n
The move marks the end of a familiar convenience for many customers, especially families, students and regular diners who have long used the beverage stations for refills and customized drink combinations.<\/p>\n
According to KTLA, the fast food giant confirmed in 2023 that it would “move away from self-serve beverage stations in dining rooms across the US by 2032”.<\/p>\n
Instead of customers filling drinks themselves, restaurant staff will prepare drinks using automated systems behind the counter. <\/p>\n
McDonald’s said the decision is designed to create a more consistent experience across drive-thru, mobile app, delivery, kiosks and dine-in ordering.<\/p>\n
The change first began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when shared public surfaces like soda machines became a sanitation concern. <\/p>\n
Since then, the company has continued to expand the system as part of broader operational changes.<\/p>\n
McDonald’s also expects to benefit from improved order accuracy and a reduction in product loss associated with unpaid refills or misuse of beverage stations.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
