This story is as old as time, and everyone in the Android sphere is surely familiar with it. Be it the slow rollout speed or the lack of long-term update policies, Motorola has always been bad in this regard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>Because of this, it&#8217;s no surprise when Motorola launches new smartphones with poor update support. It&#8217;s something we&#8217;ve had to get used to over the years, whether we like it or not.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>But with the Razr (2026) lineup, I&#8217;m completely fed up with Motorola&#8217;s inaction. When Motorola raises prices without any improvements &#8211; while also proving it can do better with other phones &#8211; I question why anyone who cares about Android would still want anything to do with this company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_tk\">\n<div class=\"e_wk e_kt\">\n<h3 class=\"e_nt\">Is three years of Android updates a deal-breaker for the Razer (2026) phone?<\/h3>\n<p>0 votes<\/p>\n<div class=\"e_pt e_Ek\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"e_qt\"><\/p>\n<p>Yes! Since the Razr (2023) series, Motorola has only committed to three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates. While this isn&#8217;t the company&#8217;s worst performance ever, it&#8217;s still not great.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>This lack of support has been one of the most glaring disadvantages of the Razr lineup since the beginning, and with every generation, it&#8217;s one of the biggest knocks against Motorola&#8217;s foldables.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>Still nothing ever changes. The Razer (2024) series is stuck with three years of Android updates + four years of security patches. Scott Brown\/Android Authority<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>What&#8217;s particularly disappointing this time is that Motorola is asking you to pay more than ever for its Razr foldables, while doing nothing to improve its Android update support. The baseline Razer (2026) and Razer Plus (2026) are both $100 more than last year&#8217;s models, priced at $800 and $1,100, respectively. The Razer Ultra (2026) has seen a massive price increase of $200, taking its price to $1,500.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>Just think about it for a minute. Motorola is asking you to pay $800, $1,100, etc <em>$1,500<\/em> For its latest Razors, refusing to back down from just three years of Android OS updates. And that&#8217;s to say nothing of the phone&#8217;s spec sheets, which are eerily similar to last year&#8217;s Razrs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>Android updates aren&#8217;t everything \u2013 I&#8217;ll be the first to admit that. But that doesn&#8217;t excuse what Motorola is doing here. Asking for more than three Android updates on such an expensive smartphone shouldn&#8217;t be a tough request. Not only this, the company has proved many times that it is fully capable of doing this!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>But if that&#8217;s the case, then why in the world are the Razer (2026), Razer Plus (2026), and Razer Ultra (2026) still stuck with only three updates? Why do the Signature and Fold deserve the promise of seven years of updates, but the entire Razer (2026) family doesn&#8217;t?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><q>It&#8217;s one thing to offer long-term updates for only two smartphone models. It&#8217;s another thing to extend that policy to every phone that&#8217;s eligible.<\/q><\/p>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>This is why I find it hard to believe that Motorola will ever commit to making sweeping improvements to the way it handles software updates. It&#8217;s one thing to offer long-term updates for only two smartphone models. It&#8217;s another thing to extend that policy to every phone that&#8217;s eligible. But the good Motorola can do will always be limited as long as it continues to aggressively hamper its phones with poor software support.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"e_e e_L\">\n<p>I&#8217;ve complained about Motorola&#8217;s update policies in articles like this for years, and with each year that passes, Motorola&#8217;s shortcomings get worse.
