Amen” (Ephesians 3:20,21).

The experience of God can be greater than any of us have ever tasted; Sadly, we content ourselves with very little. Compared to the depth of God’s riches, our experience of Him is often little more than drowning in shallow waters. We have contented ourselves with very little knowledge of him, hardly more than scraps. Our complacency has been our destruction.

Do we really have a will that can be called? hungry and thirsty? Jesus taught that those who will be “filled” are those who desire to be filled (Matthew 5:6). And James said simply, “You do not have because you do not ask” (James 4:2). It may be that, in the practical matters of daily life, we are refusing to recognize how deeply we really need God.

Do we have the courage to pursue a deeper relationship with God? To walk closely with God is to go into territory that is unknown and often frightening to us. Somehow we feel that God would have to make such radical changes in our character and take such dangerous steps in our obedience that we would find it safer to stay right there in the lowlands, away from the adventures of real life with God. Faced with troubling, unexpected truths, we retreat.

Do we really live our lives without knowing what lies deep within our souls? Even though we spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves, most of us are little more than strangers at our core. We have never truly penetrated into the depths of all that God created us to be. Vast areas of individual potential are unknown. Powerful personal resources lie unused, resources given to us by God used for purposes we have not allowed ourselves to dream of. We spend our whole lives standing on the threshold of self-discovery, missing real life because we have not had the courage to lose ourselves in God.

Why do we take so long to look from the outside to the inside in relation to the magnificent interior feast that God has prepared for us? We are fools to wait. “Oh, taste that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in him!” (Psalm 34:8)

“I am spiritually hungry.
