44 <\/sup>Now it was about six o’clock, (1)<\/sup> And there was darkness over the whole country until the ninth hour, (2)<\/sup> <\/span> 45 <\/sup>While the sun became dark. Then the curtain of the temple burst into two pieces. <\/span> 46 <\/sup>Jesus cried out in a loud voice, \u201cFather, into your hands I commit my spirit!\u201d (3)<\/sup> When he said this he breathed his last.<\/span><\/p>\n

47 <\/sup>When the centurion saw what had happened, he began to praise God, saying, \u201cThis man was truly righteous.\u201d <\/span> 48 <\/sup>When all the people who had gathered to watch the scene saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts. <\/span> 49 <\/sup>All those who knew Jesus, including the women who had followed Him from Galilee, were standing at a distance and watching these things.<\/span><\/p>\n

50 <\/sup>In the Jewish city of Arimathea there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Sanhedrin, a good and righteous man. <\/span> 51 <\/sup>He did not agree with their plans and actions. He was hoping for the kingdom of God. <\/span> 52 <\/sup>This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. <\/span> 53 <\/sup>He took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth, and placed it in a tomb he had cut out of the rock, where no one had ever been laid. <\/span> 54 <\/sup>It was the day of preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning. <\/span> 55 <\/sup>The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph, and they saw the tomb, and how his body was laid there. <\/span> 56 <\/sup>Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested as commanded.<\/span><\/p>\n
