Dua Lipa files $15 million lawsuit against Samsung<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nDua Lipa has dragged Samsung to court for using her image without permission.<\/p>\n
On Friday, May 8, Lipa filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, accusing Samsung of using her copyrighted backstage photo on cardboard boxes containing TVs sold throughout the United States.<\/p>\n
After her photos surfaced, the 30-year-old English singer and songwriter contacted the company to stop using her face for mass marketing, but her request was rejected as the company seemed “dismissive and insensitive”.<\/p>\n
Lipa is now seeking at least $15 million in damages, including the profits the company made through sales using her snaps, which were taken backstage at the Austin City Limits festival in 2024.<\/p>\n
People <\/i>The magazine obtained legal documents that state, “Ms. Lipa’s face was used prominently in a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and over which she had no say, control, or input.”<\/p>\n
\u201cMs. Lipa did not and would not have given permission for this use,\u201d it clarified.<\/p>\n
It is worth mentioning that the complaint also mentions that Samsung continued to use the Grammy-winner’s image even though their representative had already sent a demand to stop it after discovering Samsung’s “infringement and violation of the right of publicity” around June 2025.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint, “Samsung’s response has been dismissive and insensitive,” and the products “remain on the market today.”<\/p>\n
“Samsung’s infringing conduct \u2013 using Ms. Lipa’s property without consideration \u2013 makes a mockery of her hard work in establishing a successful brand,” the complaint says.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
