I am now a year away from officially turning 40. 20 years ago, my birthday celebrations were held at bars and usually ended in a drunken stupor somewhere after midnight. Today, I spend the evening of my birthday telling my boys that &#8220;<em>Hey, get off the couch!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Don\u2019t keep blowing out Papa\u2019s candle!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Over the years my investment strategy has evolved, just like my birthdays. I have been investing for 16 years. My university roommate got me into this game by lending me Benjamin Graham&#8217;s first book, The Intelligent Investor. Soon, I became addicted. I bought my first stock in 2010. At that time, I spent most of my evenings in my university hall room writing notes about investing that I had read online and in books. When I started the advice was simple: buy good companies, never overpay.
