Zero-day exploits are considered the most serious type of security flaw because they are not detected by security companies and have no known solution.

The report said this was the first time that Google had seen evidence of AI being used to develop these vulnerabilities – which marks a major change in the cybersecurity landscape, as it suggests that new AI models could be used not just to find them, but to create larger exploits.

Google concluded that Anthropic’s Cloud Mythos model – which is Thousands of vulnerabilities have already been found In every major operating system and web browser – it was probably not used to create a zero-day exploit.

Mythos, along with OpenAI’s newly announced GPT-5.5 cyber model, are of most importance to the Trump administration, which is holding ongoing meetings with industry groups to discuss potential regulation and vetting of the Frontier model.

Google communicated its findings to an unnamed firm affected by the vulnerability before releasing its report. The company then released a patch to fix the problem.

John Hultquist, principal analyst at Google Threat Intelligence Group, said in a statement that the findings make it clear that the race to use AI to find network vulnerabilities “has already begun.”

“For every zero-day we detect in AI, there are probably many more out there,” Hultquist said. “Threat actors are using AI to increase the speed, scale, and sophistication of their attacks.”

In recent months threat researchers have noticed that hackers are using AI more frequently to enhance their attacks. In November, Anthropic said Beijing-backed hackers used A.I. To fully automate your cyber attacks for the first time.

The Google Threat Intelligence Group report also details efforts by Russia-linked hacking groups to use AI models to target Ukrainian networks with malware, while North Korean government hacking group APT45 has used AI technologies to refine and enhance its cyber methods.

The rollout of hyper-advanced AI models has raised concerns that this technology could soon be adopted by criminals and adversaries to discover and launch cyberattacks on an unseen scale. Anthropic and OpenAI have so far only allowed a small group of researchers, tech companies, and government agencies to test their AI models.

“The phased release was really meant to create what we call defenders’ advantage, and we believe the window is in a time frame of months — not years,” Rob Baer, head of cyber policy at Anthropic, said at the AI+Expo in Washington last week.

Google announced on Monday that cybercriminals used an artificial intelligence model to create a recent zero-day vulnerability that could be used to widely exploit the network.
