Former Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Detective Mark Fuhrman has died at the age of 74. <\/p>\n

He died at his home in Kootenai County, Idaho, where he had been living since his retirement from the LAPD, as confirmed by his family on May 18.<\/p>\n

The former detective died after battling an aggressive form of throat cancer. <\/p>\n

Mark Fuhrman was an infamous personality as he was convicted of lying during testimony in a high-stakes OJ Simpson murder trial 30 years ago. <\/p>\n

Who was Mark Fuhrman? <\/span><\/h2>\n

Fuhrman began his career by serving in the United States Marine Corps, where he eventually achieved the rank of sergeant. After retiring from the marine services, he joined the Los Angeles Police Academy. <\/p>\n

Fuhrman became a controversial figure when he was one of the first detectives to arrive at the crime scene and found bloody gloves at OJ Simpson’s estate. <\/p>\n

He soon became the focal point of the case when the defense team accused him of presenting evidence to further a racial agenda. <\/p>\n

He was also blamed for displaying racial discrimination against communities of color. But Fuhrman denied this. <\/p>\n

Fuhrman became one of the most controversial figures in the OJ Simpson trial when his credibility was systematically destroyed. Under oath, Fuhrman testified that he had not used a racial slur targeting African Americans in decades. <\/p>\n
