Meta has been working on it for the past two years, but the end result is not getting the reception Meta was hoping for.<\/p>\n<p>Since the update started becoming available to everyone a few weeks ago, I&#8217;ve received countless messages from friends (and the parents of my son&#8217;s friends) asking how to revert to the old UI. The answer is&#8230;you can&#8217;t. Follow-up questions typically revolve around how to do things they used to do every day, as many of the most common tasks now require multiple additional clicks or menu selections to find.<\/p>\n<aside data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" class=\"hawk-root\"\/>\n<p id=\"elk-5a802b3a-1ea0-40bd-9615-a8c1209ba211-2\">Meta has designed this new Navigator UI, as it&#8217;s called, to make it extremely easy to jump into VR experiences in record time. It certainly achieves that goal, but as it happens, whenever you prioritize one specific feature, everything else suffers because of it. Pressing the Meta\/Home button on the right controller now always brings up the app launcher, but all other system windows and apps run in floating windows. The problem is that pressing that Meta\/Home button again doesn&#8217;t hide the windows; This only hides the app launcher.<\/p>\n<p>Meta also completely redesigned the universal menu bar at the bottom, which no longer lets you pin apps, quickly close floating windows, or use the virtual camera. Instead, you will need <strong>double click<\/strong> <strong>Meta\/Home button on right controller<\/strong> To hide floating windows. It&#8217;s possible that Meta explained it in one of those pop-up tutorial windows, but not many people read them, and hiding such important functionality behind a weird gesture irritates users. <em>Very<\/em> Disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>Some versions of the Navigator UI now include a virtual &#8220;Hide Windows&#8221; button on the app launcher hot bar, which is at least a moderate improvement over this terrible dual-layer design, but it&#8217;s still a lot of button presses to achieve what a single home button press used to do.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"elk-fdf216a4-40a2-4377-813a-b8942e34c4b0\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-update-pin-or-uninstall-an-app-3\">How to update, pin, or uninstall an app<\/h2>\n<p id=\"elk-4b8315fa-79da-408d-af21-b2c6c56cb851\">In the old app launcher, each app or game&#8217;s icon had a three-dot menu button in the top-right corner, allowing you to perform additional actions on that app. Things like pinning an app to the hotbar, updating it, checking permissions or even uninstalling were in very clear places which are similar to smartphone UI. When you were playing an immersive game in the previous UI, you could press the Meta\/Home button, then click Quit on the menu that appeared. It was simple! it was easy! The good thing is that when you follow steps 1 and 2 above the new camera bar appears <em>excess<\/em> More functionality than the old menu. Try clicking on Camera Settings in that menu and play with the available options! You can default the recording camera to third-person view, make it Instagram-ready with a 9:16 aspect ratio, add image stabilization, and more.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" id=\"elk-4d78d4ed-d956-4282-b81d-71ff8d27334d\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"where-did-settings-go-3\">Where did the settings go?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"elk-a2ee77a7-b2e8-4424-ab51-5faae5773186\">Finding settings used to be a fairly simple task. You&#8217;ll press the Home button, then tap Quick Settings, and a big, cute <strong>settings<\/strong> The button will be there. The new UI didn&#8217;t change these steps much, but it did make the Settings button <em>absolutely tiny<\/em> And it&#8217;s almost impossible to see. But the Navigator is a completely different thing. Although it launches apps significantly faster, it does so at the expense of almost every other action that Meta Quest gamers typically perform.<\/p>\n<p>Meta received a lot of criticism for this update during the testing phase, including a lot of posts on their own forums on social media and feedback through the official process, but they still went ahead and released the new UI to everyone without making fundamental changes.<\/p>\n<p>Meta has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/gaming\/virtual-reality\/its-time-for-the-meta-quest-to-focus-on-stability-not-capability\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/gaming\/virtual-reality\/its-time-for-the-meta-quest-to-focus-on-stability-not-capability\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/gaming\/virtual-reality\/its-time-for-the-meta-quest-to-focus-on-stability-not-capability\">There was a big problem with minor updates in the past, but this update is not like that <em>buggy<\/em>It&#8217;s bad in very different ways. The only way to revert menu changes is to use <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.quest-games-optimizer.com\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.quest-games-optimizer.com\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\">Quest Games Optimizer<\/a>Which you&#8217;ll need to sideload, but the app also opens up a ton of customization and performance options that aren&#8217;t otherwise available.
