Now the earth was formless and empty, there was darkness on the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, &#8220;Let there be light,&#8221; and there was light.<br \/><strong>Genesis 1:1-3<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>A secret to our comfort<\/h3>\n<p>Already at the beginning of time, we see God in three persons working to bless us. God the Father created all things. The Holy Spirit participated in a miraculous way by hovering over the waters, and the Apostle John revealed that it was through Jesus, God the Son, that all things came into being.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible clearly teaches that there is one God in three persons. Each person, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are separate and distinct, yet there is only one God. In other words, one + one + one = one. Obviously, this equation does not add up. Throughout history, people have tried to understand the mystery of the Trinity. But no matter how hard we try, things don&#8217;t work out in the end.<\/p>\n<p>But should this really surprise us? Is it really so unreasonable that we cannot fully understand the omniscient, omnipotent, and all-holy God? When we are faced with this mystery, we can respond in two ways. We can arrogantly raise our voices and argue with the Creator of heaven and earth, or we can humbly bow our heads to praise the One who is above all. The Holy Spirit moves us to do the latter. With the psalmist, we can declare: \u201cSuch knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to obtain\u201d (Psalm 139:6).<\/p>\n<p>But the Bible reveals the Triune God not only to humble us, but also to console us. Just as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were active and working in creation, so too they are active and working in our salvation. The Father sent His only son. The Son freely offered His life for our sins. The Spirit brings what Jesus personally accomplished for us by creating faith in our hearts, enabling us to receive the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4>Prayer:<\/h4>\n<p>Almighty God, you are beyond my understanding and wisdom. Thank you for revealing yourself to me in the pages of the Bible and leading me to your Son, Jesus Christ, my Savior.
