Iran&#8217;s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the global oil supply passes, has pushed prices above $100 a barrel. <\/p>\n<p>international benchmark <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\">Brent crude was last trading up about 5% at $107 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate futures climbed 4.2% to $94 a barrel. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, jet fuel prices have also increased by nearly 106% compared to a month ago, according to data for the week ending March 20. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iata.org\/en\/publications\/economics\/fuel-monitor\/\">International Air Transport Association<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Airlines are considering a number of measures, from charging higher ticket fares to canceling less profitable flights. <\/p>\n<p>Cathay Pacific of China <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cathaypacific.com\/cx\/en_GB\/latest-news\/other-news\/fuel-surcharge-updates.html\">increased my fuel surcharge<\/a> In response to the Middle East conflict, he said this is an important mitigation strategy to offset rising fuel costs, which were expected to account for 30% of its total operating costs in 2025. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-relatedContent\" id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-container\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-nonCollapsibleContent\">\n<h2 class=\"RelatedContent-header\">Read more about the travel impact of the Middle East conflict<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Meanwhile, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said rising oil prices will have a &#8220;meaningful&#8221; impact on the carrier&#8217;s first-quarter financial results earlier this month.
