His return date was announced by Hoda Kotb, who confirmed that Guthrie would return to the anchor desk on April 6. <\/p>\n
Co-host Craig Melvin said the team is looking forward to welcoming him back.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes after the airing of the second part of Guthrie’s interview, in which he spoke candidly about the emotional challenge of the comeback. <\/p>\n
Guthrie said of returning, “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s this place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something I’m not. But I can’t come back because this is my family. I think that’s part of my purpose right now.” Today<\/i>. <\/p>\n
She said she didn’t expect to feel this way but wanted to return to a place she considers family.<\/p>\n
“I want to smile. And when I smile, it will be genuine. And my happiness will be my protest. My happiness will be my answer. And it’s joyful to be there. And when it’s not, I’ll say so. I’m so grateful for this family. I consider it my family, my big family, and when times are tough, you want to be with your family. And I want to be with my family,” Guthrie said.<\/p>\n
Guthrie also addressed speculation surrounding his mother’s alleged kidnapping, including ransom and suspicion of his own family.<\/p>\n
Guthrie has been off the air since he disappeared from his mother Nancy’s Arizona home on January 31. Authorities later released surveillance footage showing a masked intruder outside the property on the night she disappeared. <\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing, no suspects have been identified.<\/p>\n
During his absence, Today <\/i>It is led by Craig Melvin, with support from Hoda Kotb and other presenters. Earlier this month, Guthrie briefly returned to the studio to thank colleagues and said she was hopeful as efforts to find her mother continued.<\/p>\n
The family has also offered a reward for information and donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
