It was an era defined by glossy teen magazines, Friday night rituals in front of the TV, and unforgettable pop culture moments that still live free in our minds today. Now, one influencer is turning that nostalgia into a vibrant digital experience, bringing those cherished memories back to life for thousands of online followers.

What started as an emotional moment after seeing photos of her grandmother’s renovated house soon turned into a much bigger moment. Inspired to revisit her childhood, she began digging through old photographs and mementos. Suddenly, she shared an old journal on TikTok, and the reaction was immediate. Viewers were thrilled to revisit the Pages they once loved, and their old content soon found a loyal and enthusiastic audience on TikTok and Instagram.

Read my interview with influencer Shaina Helm, known for her vintage magazine flip throughs and nostalgic content. You can find her on Instagram here @imstuckin.1999. it was a pleasure to talk with him social lifestyle magazine.

Meghan: What inspired you to start your journey as an influencer?

Shaina: I’ve always been a pretty nostalgic person. I’ve had a nostalgia-based Tumblr account since 2016, but it really became popular for me on TikTok in 2021. It’s kind of a funny, sad story. My mom showed me one day what the inside of my grandmother’s house looked like after people renovated it. It made me very nostalgic, and I started looking through my old things and old photos. That’s when I decided to post a magazine flip through on TikTok and people loved it! I was doing quite well on TikTok and I decided to move to Instagram as well to share my memories with more people.

Meghan: Was there a defining moment when you realized this could become more than just a hobby?

Shaina: I’m not sure I can think of a specific moment. Mainly when I see how many people get excited about old magazines and catalogs. Even celebrities have commented about them and messaged me! This makes me realize that I have to keep posting them so they don’t get forgotten. It’s very rewarding when I can unlock a memory for someone. There are many things from our childhood that we forget.

Meghan: Why is it meaningful to you personally to look back at the 1990s and the Y2K era?

Shaina: Things felt much more comfortable and safe at that time. Things changed in my life at a very young age, so looking back and thinking about that time helps me feel more at peace, and I can escape the craziness of reality for just a moment.

Meghan: Who were some of your favorite stars of the 1990s, and are there any influencers today who give you the same energy?

Shaina: Oh boy, there were a lot of them! I mean, growing up with Mary-Kate and Ashley, they were a huge influence on me! I also love Christina Ricci, Larisa Oleynik, Melissa Joan Hart, Claire Danes, Danielle Fishel, I could go on! As far as today’s influencers go, there are some people like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Zendaya who have had a huge impact on today’s young generation.

Meghan: Which show from ABC’s TGIF lineup was your favorite, and what made it special to you?

Shaina: sabrina the teenage witch Sure!! Too The boy meets the world, step by step, and i can’t forget two of a kindEven if it was only one season. They really knew how to make good television shows at that time!

I mean, sabrina Was a favorite because I loved anything witch related, but also because it was relevant when it came to being different and trying to fit in at school. boy meets world was such a relatable and entertaining show about relationships like best friends, girlfriends and boyfriends, siblings, parents and teachers. respectively That was hilarious, the comedy on that show was great! two of a kind Of course, because of Mary-Kate and Ashley! The whole TGIF night was literally an event every week for people, and I wish we still had something like that.

Meghan: In your opinion, what valuable life lessons can television shows from the 1990s and early 2000s teach youth today via streaming platforms?

Shaina: Basically, just having a big heart and enjoying moments with friends and loved ones, and being there for them when they need you. Also, being kind and empathetic towards others.

Meghan: If you could go back to the 1990s, who would you want to meet and why?

Shaina: It’s a tough decision! I mean, like JT, Devon Sawa and all the boy bands I definitely wanted to meet! I’ve actually met a lot of 90s celebrities over the years because of the 90s. I was also able to meet Shannen Doherty before she passed away.

Meghan: Which 1990s or millennium teen magazine was your favorite to read?

Shaina: Hey man, I guess I might have to say both bop And seventeen magazine. Those two are probably the most indifferent to me. I had subscriptions to both. But they were all great in their own ways! I loved them all. While my mom was grocery shopping, I would sit at the magazine rack, look at them, and then beg her for one. If she said yes, it would be very difficult to choose the right one!

Meghan: How do you find some of your best-displayed items from the 1990s, or are they entirely from your own personal collection?

Shaina: Some things are from my childhood. I wish I had kept more than I did! The rest I’ve purchased from various sources like thrift stores, flea markets, eBay, Mercari, friends on Instagram, Facebook Marketplace, and antique shops!

In a digital landscape that rarely slows down, Shaina Helm has created a space where old memories are not just remembered, but relived. Through each carefully shared journal page and rediscovered memory, she invites her audience to travel back to a time when life seemed a little simpler and a lot more magical. What he’s created goes beyond content, it’s a community bound by shared memories and a collective appreciation for the past.

As their following continues to grow, one thing is for sure: nostalgia isn’t going anywhere. Thanks to Shaina, the spirit of the 1990s and early 2000s is alive, thriving, and just a scroll away. Be sure to check out her Instagram for a daily dose of nostalgic happiness. This is the kind of content that brings back that TGIF feeling, when the highlight of the week was just sitting back and enjoying something that made you smile.
