Parts of Italy have now experienced severe flooding – leading to the collapse of a bridge on a major highway.<\/p>\n

The Trigno river burst its banks before the bridge near Montenero di Bisaccia in Molise \u2013 collapsed on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the road \u2013 a vital link with the Adriatic coast \u2013 was closed after authorities issued a warning over rising river levels.<\/p>\n

Typhoon Erminio’s first victim, a man swept away after the sky turned red<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

A red alert has been issued for parts of Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia, with rain and storms in central and southern Italy, and an orange alert for five regions. <\/p>\n

There will also be severe precipitation with heavy rain, strong wind gusts, localized hail and lightning activity. <\/p>\n

More than 50 motorists have been rescued and 40 farmers have been evacuated by airboat.<\/p>\n

A red alert has been issued for hydraulic risk in Basso Fortore.<\/p>\n

It comes after the storm caused severe flooding in the southern Greek city of Nea Makri in Attica, where one person tragically lost his life.<\/p>\n

The victim, who was originally from Poland, left his home on Megalo Alexandrou Street to escape his flooded basement.<\/p>\n

In a tragic accident, a 54-year-old man lost his footing and was washed away in the swift water flowing in his street.<\/p>\n

He traveled a distance of 49 feet before being trapped under the car and drowning.<\/p>\n

The neighbor who found the man described the scene of his death as “chaos.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe water was coming heavily.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Suddenly I saw something under the wheel, I thought it was a dog.”<\/p>\n

“We were in danger, we didn’t sleep all night (…) It was stuck under the wheel”, explained the resident.<\/p>\n

During this time, scary footage of trees falling and cars being crushed was captured in Greece. Power<\/span> Lines have collapsed in popular tourist destinations.<\/p>\n

On the picturesque island of Poros, roads turned into rivers and cars floated in muddy torrents.<\/p>\n

A bridge was also destroyed in heavy floods.<\/p>\n

According to local fire services, approximately 500 emergency calls and 30 rescue requests have been made in the Athens area alone.<\/p>\n

Holiday hotspot Rhodes has also been hit by brutal weather, with waves up to 15 feet high and gale force winds gusting up to 70mph \u2013 with many flights to Diagoras airport grounded.<\/p>\n

In Crete, dozens of people are stranded at Nikos Kazantzakis Airport as flights have been canceled due to the choking dust.<\/p>\n
