A 23-year-old man who was also a passenger is being treated in hospital for serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector Matt Wightwick said: \u201cThis is a tragic incident, and we are actively investigating the full circumstances of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police said the woman&#8217;s family has been notified and the northbound lane will be closed until the vehicle is recovered and investigated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be opened as soon as it is safe and practical to do so,&#8221; Sussex Police said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more from Sky News:<br \/>88 year old woman dies after being hit by lorry<br \/>Crete covered by Saharan dust storm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The incident caused queues of more than four miles and wait times of more than an hour.<\/p>\n<p>A diversion has been put in place by National Highways advising drivers to exit the M23 at Junction 10 and initially follow the A264 eastbound.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A woman has died and a man has been seriously injured following a collision on the M23.
