The scale of devastation keeps increasing. indiscriminate attacks increase<\/strong>\u201cMr. Guterres said, noting that the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as the general threats to the world economy \u2013 particularly the most vulnerable societies that are dependent on energy imports \u2013 are increasing daily.<\/p>\n<h3>threat of a world at war<\/h3>\n<p>He stressed that the impacts of the crisis are no longer limited within the region, pointing to serious disruptions particularly around freedom of navigation. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>When the Strait of Hormuz was strangled, <\/strong><strong>the world&#8217;s poorest and most vulnerable<\/strong><strong>    can&#8217;t breathe<\/strong>,&#8221; He warned. <\/p>\n<p>He said the consequences were already visible &#8220;in people&#8217;s daily lives&#8221;. <strong>Struggling with rising food and energy costs<\/strong> From the Philippines\u2026to Sri Lanka\u2026to Mozambique.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>shuttle diplomacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To stop this rising trajectory, the Secretary-General announced that he was sending his personal envoy, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/personnel-appointments\/2026-03-25\/mr-jean-arnault-of-france-personal-envoy-of-the-secretary-general-the-middle-east-conflict-and-its-consequences\">jean arnault<\/a>To assist in ongoing peace initiatives in the region. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cycle of death and destruction must stop,\u201d he pleaded, urging that diplomatic efforts be given the space and support to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Guterres emphasized that <strong>Any proposal must be kept firmly within the framework of international law <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/charter-united-nations\/index.html\">UN Charter<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>They called for peaceful settlement of disputes, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Member States, and the protection of endangered civilians and nuclear installations in Iran and elsewhere amid the threat of war.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Message to America, Israel and Iran<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Addressing the combatants directly, the Secretary-General declared: &#8220;To the United States and Israel, <strong>Now is the time to stop a war that is causing enormous human suffering and already leading to devastating economic consequences<\/strong>&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>He further said, Iran should stop attacking its neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>Reiterating that the Security Council has already condemned these attacks and reaffirmed the need to respect navigation rights in vital sea lanes. <strong>UN chief reminds world leaders that the power to end the crisis lies in their hands<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConflicts do not end on their own,\u201d Mr. Guterres concluded. &#8220;They end when leaders choose dialogue rather than destruction. That choice still exists. And it must be made now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Security Council: Gulf countries condemn Iranian attacks<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Middle East stands &#8220;on a dangerous brink,&#8221; Assistant Secretary-General Khalid Khyari told the Security Council, which met Thursday morning to discuss enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and Arab states in the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>He condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and cited the demand outlined in the previous month <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/S\/RES\/2817(2026)\">Council Resolution 2817 (2026)<\/a> &#8211;
