Not that IP was ever much of a hindrance, as evidenced by the hundreds of films, books, porn parodies, etc. released in the nearly century since Arthur Conan Doyle&#8217;s death. That is to say, Holmes is quite flexible as a character, and, while I wouldn&#8217;t say we need a zippy, Guy Ritchie Sherlock prequel\u2014<em>young sherlock<\/em> Unique, and a lot of fun. It&#8217;s certainly stretching the character to his breaking point, but at least maintains a fair amount of respect for the canon, with the hero Fiennes Tiffin having a nice role as Moriarty alongside Donal Finn.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some other entertaining stylish period (mostly) dramas for your post-<em>young sherlock<\/em> The joy of watching.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-artful-dodger-2023\"><em>The Artful Dodger <\/em>(2023)<\/h2>\n<p><em>artful Dodger<\/em> Serves as a sequel to <em>Oliver Twist<\/em>The Search for Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) <em>queen&#8217;s stake<\/em> And <em>Wolf Hall<\/em>) Making a living as a surgeon after escaping prison: Turns out those nimble fingers are good for more than just pickpocketing. It&#8217;s all going great until his old mentor Fagin (David Thewlis) turns up on his doorstep, and uses his history to coax Jack into helping him with his criminal endeavors. Here, Watson (Royce Pierson) hires the damaged but resourceful Urchin to assist him on cases involving covert activity, as well as help locate the aging and missing Sherlock. Putting Holmes aside, the show works as a dark, Victorian-era <em>stranger things<\/em>. The chemistry between the main characters has powered the show through 19 seasons (and counting), as has the show&#8217;s eccentric attitude toward historical accuracy, throwing real-life figures and innovations into a mix that easily includes technology bordering on steampunk. Maybe, a little more comfortable than that <em>young sherlock<\/em>But sometimes it&#8217;s the perfect environment. <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tubitv.com\/series\/300010432\/murdoch-mysteries\" title=\"open in a new window\"><strong><u>Stream <em>Murdoch Mysteries on Tubi<\/em><\/u><u>.<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 id=\"a-thousand-blows-2025\"><em>a thousand blows<\/em> (2025- )<\/h2>\n<p>a spiritual follow up to <em>peaky blinders<\/em> According to the show&#8217;s creator, the show goes back a little further, to the 1880s, when London&#8217;s East End was run by an all-female crime syndicate. True story! Erin Doherty plays Mary Carr, the leader of the Forty Elephants squad, who specializes in shoplifting and fraud schemes. In <em>a thousand blows<\/em>Mary and her gang come up against Stephen Graham&#8217;s Henry &#8220;Sugar&#8221; Goodson (another real-world hero), who is running an illegal bare-knuckle boxing organization. Coming among them is Hezekiah Moscow (Malachi Kirby), a recently arrived Jamaican immigrant, who introduces us to this grim world and its competing factions. <strong><u>Stream <em>a thousand blows<\/em><\/u><\/strong><strong><u>    on hulu<\/u><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 id=\"vienna-blood-2019-2024\"><em>Vienna blood<\/em> (2019 \u2013 2024)<\/h2>\n<p><em>Vienna blood<\/em> Producer and writer Steve Thompson was the screenwriter for Benedict Cumberbatch. <em>sherlock<\/em> series, as well as for <em>young sherlock<\/em> series in question, so perhaps it makes perfect sense that this Edwardian-era crime procedural has Holmes in its DNA. Matthew Beard plays Dr. Max Lieberman, a student of Sigmund Freud who is recruited by police detective Oskar Reinhard (Jurgen Maurer) to provide some psychological insight to the investigation of several gruesome murders. Lieberman draws brilliant conclusions about character traits just like Holmes does with physical evidence, just with a little more action and serial murder. <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/show\/vienna-blood\/\" title=\"open in a new window\"><strong>Stream <em>Vienna blood<\/em> on pbs passport<\/strong><\/a><strong>    Or buy it from Prime Video<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 id=\"death-comes-to-pemberley-2013\"><em>death comes to pemberley<\/em> (2013)<\/h2>\n<p>This is not a sexy, action-packed update <em>pride and Prejudice<\/em>But the source also has a slight impact on the style. <em>young sherlock<\/em> Does. Adapted from the novel by PD James, one of the most accomplished crime novelists of the 20th century, <em>pemberley<\/em> We find ourselves several years after the events of Austen&#8217;s novel. Darcy (Matthew Rhys) and Lizzie (Anna Maxwell Martin) are content, if not always blissfully, married, and they have arranged one of the balls for which Pemberley is famous. En route, Lizzie&#8217;s sister and her husband George Wickham are traveling with Captain Denny. Wickham and Denny have a fight, they disappear into the woods and Denny ends up dead. Rhys, naturally, is fantastic as a brilliant but hard-working defense lawyer who is going through a divorce while coping with the trauma of the Great War. She is hired to investigate the case of a kidnapped and mutilated child who is revealed to have ties to crooked cops, local business leaders, and politicians in 1932 LA. Juliet Rylance co-stars as no-nonsense legal secretary Della Street and Tatiana Maslany as a creepy publicist. <strong>Stream <em>perry mason<\/em> on HBO Max.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 id=\"monsieur-spade-2024\"><em>monsieur spade<\/em> (2024)<\/h2>\n<p>An original play by Scott Frank (<em>queen&#8217;s stake<\/em>) and Tom Fontana (<em>homicide<\/em>, <em>ounce<\/em>), <em>monsieur spade<\/em> Hammett&#8217;s Sam Spade finds <em>Maltese Falcon<\/em> fame, living a quiet life in retirement in the south of France. Everything is going well for the former detective &#8211; until six nuns are brutally murdered in a nearby convent, the same convent that has been home to Sam&#8217;s ward for some time. Naturally, he finds that his past has caught up with him, and he is forced to abandon his idyllic life in order to help uncover the complex mystery that threatens his (very few) loved ones. She discovers that her father was involved in various criminal enterprises, and her favorite brother is in debt to a drug dealer worth millions of pounds. What else is the charming, military-trained Duke supposed to do except look cool and learn to navigate the violent underworld? <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/81437051\" title=\"open in a new window\"><strong>Stream <em>gentlemen<\/em> on netflix<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 id=\"sherlock-amp-daughter-2025\"><em>sherlock and daughter <\/em>(2025- )<\/h2>\n<p>Even though the setup is far removed from anything in the Doyle canon, this CW production probably features the most lit-accurate Holmes as David Thewlis. He&#8217;s irritable, stubborn, and emotionally distant, which makes a contrast all the more effective when Amelia Rojas (Bleu Hunt) arrives at his door after the death of her mother and a harrowing trip from California. With the real possibility that Sherlock is her father, she teams up with him to investigate an international criminal gang and hopefully discover what happened to her mother.
