For those unaware, the 50-year-old English singer, songwriter, television personality and dancer has struggled through tough times. She remained in an abusive marriage with Stephen Belafonte for 10 years, which brought her only financial troubles; This caused him to suffer emotional stress and PTSD.<\/p>\n
Additionally, she suffered a family separation and went to a rehab center to gain sobriety and heal the trauma along with many of the symptoms of menopause.<\/p>\n

Speaking about her love for the menagerie, she shared, “My dad (Martin Brown) grew up in Nevis with goats and chickens, so it reminds me of his roots and my lovely grandmother.”<\/p>\n
Mel quipped, “They’re real country goats. They don’t care about the weather, their pen is always open and they’re free to run around.”<\/p>\n
When it comes to helping her with the animals, her children, 27-year-old Phoenix, 19-year-old Angel, and 14-year-old Madison “often say they’re going to help me after dinner at night… and then they don’t.”<\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that Mel welcomed her three children with different partners. She shares Phoenix with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar, Angel with ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy, and Madison with Belafonte.<\/p>\n
