    Amazon is releasing a new Kindle update, but version 5.19.3.0.1 isn’t actually new, it’s just a new version. The latest build replaces the original 5.19.3 release, which inexplicably disappeared after many users encountered significant bugs and performance issues. Version 5.19.3.0.1 is now available on recent devices, including the Kindle Scribe and the new Kindle Paperwhite.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    As far as what’s actually new, there’s not much officially documented answer. The release notes for this update are the same as 5.19.3, with Amazon once again pointing to improved support for USB-transferred PDFs. This support was a long-awaited change that finally makes sideloaded documents behave like native Kindle files with proper text selection, highlights, notes, and navigation. On tools like Scribe, users can now also write directly on PDFs, and color models can now display sideloaded PDFs in color.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    In addition to PDF-related upgrades, the release notes include the usual mix of performance updates and bug fixes. In other words, cleanliness. Version 5.19.3.0.1 is apparently a fix for the previous one, which caused enough problems that Amazon had to pull the update entirely. Early feedback on this April update suggests that at least one visible issue has been fixed. However, most users are still anxiously waiting to see what new issues may emerge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Version 5.19.3.0.1 is already working on supported Kindle devices and should install automatically over Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you can get it manually from Amazon’s site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
