This is a security collapse<\/strong>,&#8221; He <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unocha.org\/news\/over-1000-aid-workers-killed-often-hands-member-states-un-relief-chief-demands-action\">told <\/a>Ambassadors in New York explained that they died in the line of service \u2013 delivering food, water, shelter and medicine, some traveling in clearly marked convoys. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Humanitarians are not just being killed but<strong>Our actions are being banned, punished, outlawed<\/strong>\u201cSaid Mr Fletcher, who leads the UN aid coordination agency, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unocha.org\/\">OCHA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are told where not to go, who not to help. We are harassed or arrested for doing our jobs. We are lied to, and there are consequences for those lies,&#8221; she said.  <\/p>\n<h2><strong>&#8216;Anarchy&#8217; is causing human deaths<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>UN relief chief challenges member states to explain why killing of humanitarians continues despite recent incidents <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/main.un.org\/securitycouncil\/\">security council<\/a> The resolution called for &#8220;ending violence&#8221; against aid workers with moral urgency.<\/p>\n<p>Resolution 2024 (2730) authored by Switzerland and adopted by 14 votes in favor, with Russia abstaining, calls on all States to respect and protect humanitarians and allied personnel in accordance with international law.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Fletcher questioned whether this was because international humanitarian law, &#8220;built by a generation of wise political leaders&#8221;, was no longer convenient. or if <strong>\u201cThose who kill us do not see any consequences for their actions,\u201d or even \u201cwe are seen as legitimate targets.\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>These trends, along with declining funding for life-saving work, are a symptom of a \u201cchaotic, combative, selfish and violent world,\u201d he declared. <\/p>\n<h2><strong>no accountability <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Last year the UN reported 14 abductions, 145 arrests and detentions, as well as 441 acts of intimidation and harassment against staff, the top UN official for safety and security said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the same period, there were also 62 attacks on UN compounds and 84 attacks on UN vehicles, Gilles Michaud continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCriminals are rarely held accountable \u2013 they are rarely named and shamed, let alone prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colleagues died supporting children at risk from war, leading vaccination campaigns, living in violent neighborhoods and delivering aid to millions in need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to fail them,\u201d Mr. Michaud told the ambassadors, stressing that the protection system for humanitarians is at its limits \u2013 increasingly underfunded, neglected and vulnerable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"context-un_news_large_credit type-entermedia_image media media--type-entermedia-image media--view-mode-un-news-large-credit\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-thumbnail field--type-image field--label-hidden field__item\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 413px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/global.unitednations.entermediadb.net\/assets\/mediadb\/services\/module\/asset\/downloads\/preset\/Collections\/Embargoed\/29-12-2025_WFP_Ukraine.jpg\/image350x235cropped.jpg\"\/><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/global.unitednations.entermediadb.net\/assets\/mediadb\/services\/module\/asset\/downloads\/preset\/Collections\/Embargoed\/29-12-2025_WFP_Ukraine.jpg\/image560x340cropped.jpg\"\/><source media=\"(max-width: 991px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/global.unitednations.entermediadb.net\/assets\/mediadb\/services\/module\/asset\/downloads\/preset\/Collections\/Embargoed\/29-12-2025_WFP_Ukraine.jpg\/image770x420cropped.jpg\"\/><source media=\"(max-width: 1199px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/global.unitednations.entermediadb.net\/assets\/mediadb\/services\/module\/asset\/downloads\/preset\/Collections\/Embargoed\/29-12-2025_WFP_Ukraine.jpg\/image1024x768.jpg\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 1200px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/global.unitednations.entermediadb.net\/assets\/mediadb\/services\/module\/asset\/downloads\/preset\/Collections\/Embargoed\/29-12-2025_WFP_Ukraine.jpg\/image1024x768.jpg\"\/><\/picture>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><strong>We are losing our humanity <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Elise Moschini, an official with the International Committee of the Red Cross, which liaises with the United Nations, said simply: <strong>&#8220;We are losing our humanity in war.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery attack on humanitarian personnel that occurs without consequences allows this deadly pattern to continue. <strong>Each such attack signals to others that the lives of aid workers are meaningless.<\/strong>,&#8221;
