Olivia Munn recalls awkward disagreement on set with male co-star<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nOlivia Munn has revealed about the moment on set when a male co-star objected to saving her character during a scene.<\/p>\n
Munn touched on the incident during a recent appearance the drew barrymore show<\/i>Where the actress revealed that it was while filming an action sequence where both the characters were fighting enemies in a bunker. <\/p>\n
“There have been times when I was filming something, and my character was either like a CIA, or a cop, or something, and there were scenes where my character was going to save another character,” she began.<\/p>\n
In this particular project too, her character was to shoot an assailant who was about to shoot her co-star from behind.<\/p>\n
“If you read the script,” she continued, “it was that he was protecting his side, I was protecting my side, then we switch sides and then there’s a guy coming for him (who) was going to shoot him in the back, so I shot him.”<\/p>\n
However, she said the actor interrupted filming and insisted, “Wait, wait, wait. Wait. She can’t save me. No, no. She can’t save me.” Munn said she guessed “he didn’t read the script”.<\/p>\n
Munn recalled that production was halted for about 45 minutes as the situation escalated, with the actors becoming “aggressive with the director”. He said that he has no problem in expressing his objection openly on the set.<\/p>\n
“There was no insecurity about being obnoxious and everyone listening to it and being like, ‘She can’t save me! We’re not doing that,'” the actress commented, before adding that she was the one who offered slight adjustments to the scene, using “save” in another context.<\/p>\n
“Nothing changed. It’s what he thought. I was doing exactly the same thing,” she said after suggesting that her characters switch locations so that the moment would appear different. The co-stars agreed to the adjustment, not realizing that the result remained the same.<\/p>\n
Munn also talked about her approach towards roles and said that she avoids projects where female characters exist only to support male stories. She said that she looks for roles in which her character has a purpose even without being a male-dominated role.<\/p>\n
