Gopinath, the last surviving member of India&#8217;s first Test-winning team, died peacefully in his sleep at his daughter&#8217;s home in Adyar.<\/p>\n<h2>Last player to survive India&#8217;s first Test win dies at 96<\/h2>\n<p>Gopinath was born in Madras (now Chennai) and was brought up in the old style of cricket, where every run was hard-earned. His consistent performances eventually opened doors for the Indian cricket team. He made his Test debut in the 1951\u201352 series against England.<\/p>\n<p>During that series, he scored an unbeaten 50 and a strong 42 against England at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
