If anything, they have become harder to identify as AI makes them more reliable. Samsung brought Google’s Gemini-powered scam detection to the Galaxy S26 in February. Now it looks like the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are next.

Android Authority dug through Google public beta app version 217.0.895016164 by phone. They found the model numbers of all three Samsung 2026 foldables buried in scam detection code. These include the Z Fold 8 (SM-F976), Z Flip 8 (SM-F776), and the Wide Fold variant (SM-F971). Regional versions also appear, covering global, US carrier-locked, US unlocked, Canada, and many other markets. One detail worth noting: the expected global variant for the Flip 8, the SM-F776B, is notably absent from the list. Android Authority could not confirm whether this was a mistake or intentional.

What does scam detection actually do?

Google’s Scam Detection uses on-device Gemini AI to monitor calls in real time. If it picks up conversation patterns that match known scam tactics, it alerts you with a notification, sound, and vibration. Nothing gets left out of your device. Samsung has been working towards this type of security for some time. The Gemini-powered version that debuted on the S26 is a step up from earlier efforts.

The feature runs through the Samsung Phone app, not Google’s dialer. This is how Samsung worked around foldables by using a different default calling app. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is already Samsung’s biggest foldable push in years. Bringing Galaxy Z Fold 8 scam detection out of the box would be a solid addition to its launch package. Z Flip 8 is expected to come with it. If the absence of the SM-F776B is just an omission, both phones should be covered.

Both foldables are expected to launch in July. Samsung hasn’t confirmed this, so consider the model number findings a strong hint and not a done deal.

Scam calls are not going away.
