If so, you&#8217;ll soon be paying premium prices to watch your favorite videos.<\/p>\n<p>Both new and existing customers are facing higher prices as the June billing cycle takes effect. <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/premium\" class=\"c-regularLink\">Sign-up page for YouTube Premium<\/a> Reveals gory details. But here are the increases for each plan:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lite plan: $8.99 per month, up from $7.99.<\/li>\n<li>Student plan: increased from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.<\/li>\n<li>Personal plan: $15.99 per month, up from $13.99.<\/li>\n<li>Family plan: Increased from $22.99 to $26.99 per month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Also: I was overpaying for YouTube Premium for months and didn&#8217;t even realize it &#8211; check your check ASAP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One way to save money on an individual plan is to opt for an annual subscription instead of a monthly one. But here too, YouTube is increasing the price from $139.99 to $159.99. If you subscribe through Apple, the news is even worse. With Apple cutting its usual 30% action, you&#8217;ll have to pay 30% more if you sign up for YouTube Premium on the website.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube is alerting current subscribers about the price increase via email. A person who has a personal plan through Apple <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/youtube\/comments\/1shbooe\/raising_prices_again_really\/\" class=\"c-regularLink\">Shared email on Reddit<\/a>Which read in part: &#8220;To continue to provide great service and features, we&#8217;re increasing your price to $20.99\/month. We don&#8217;t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue improving Premium and supporting the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Save by signing up directly to YouTube<\/h2>\n<p>The email also told this person that they would save on their premium membership by signing up directly on the website, where the new rate would be $15.99\/month.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to free YouTube, a premium plan offers many features. You can watch ad-free videos, download them and play them offline, and play videos in the background while doing something else. With all plans except Lite, you can listen to ad-free music and enjoy other benefits in the YouTube Music app.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also: Why YouTube with ads is no longer a good fit for me \u2013 even though it&#8217;s free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The last time YouTube increased the price of its premium subscription was in 2023. At that time, the price of an individual plan increased from $11.99 to $13.99 per month, while the cost of an annual plan increased from $119.99 to $139.99.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, prices have risen sharply among video streamers. Last month, Netflix increased the cost of its Standard plan with ads by $1 per month and the cost of its ad-free Standard and Premium plans by $2. Last October, the price of Hulu with Live TV increased from $82 to $90 per month. In September, Disney+ raised subscription prices across the board from $2 to $3 per month.<\/p>\n<h2>Time to review your subscriptions<\/h2>\n<p>The irony here is that streaming video services were initially introduced as a cheaper alternative to a full cable TV subscription. Although this is still true personally, many of us pay for multiple streaming services, which means our monthly bill can be even higher.<\/p>\n<p>With YouTube and other services raising their prices, now is a good time to review all of your streaming subscriptions and see which ones you can downgrade or cancel entirely.
