It broke preorder records at launch, and Samsung later admitted that the phone was drawing buyers away from its Ultra lineup. So the price increase for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which quietly appeared on Samsung’s US store this week, is a bit surprising. No announcement, no changes to the phone. Just high prices.

SAMSUNG increased costs On two of the three storage variants. The 512GB model went from $2,119 to $2,199, and the 1TB version went from $2,419 to $2,499. Both are $80 more than before. The base 256GB model currently costs $1,999. Samsung has not provided any explanation for the change.

The jump to $80 represents a roughly 3% increase. On a phone that’s over $2,000, that’s not a huge number in isolation. But this is a mid-cycle increase on a device that hasn’t changed at all.

what is behind this

The most likely driver is running out of memory. AI data centers are diverting huge amounts of DRAM and NAND away from consumer device production. According to IDC, the shortage is expected to last until 2027, meanwhile traditional memory prices are rising rapidly. Samsung is not alone here. Motorola also raised prices on parts of its Moto G lineup that same week. A similar increase has already happened in South Korea, where Samsung launched the Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Galaxy S25 Edge in higher storage variants earlier this month.

Worth noting: both the 256GB and 512GB Fold 7 come with 12GB of RAM, while only the 1TB model bumps that up to 16GB. Both higher-storage variants got a price hike on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, not just the top-spec 1TB. This indicates that storage is part of the cost equation, not just RAM.

The weird part is the timing. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to arrive in a few months. Anyone who is hesitant to spend more than $2,000 on a replacement phone now has another reason to wait.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 got a big shock out of the gate.
