Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon departs the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, U.S., on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Graeme Sloane Bloomberg | getty images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-1\">JPMorgan Chase<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>    CEO Jamie Dimon said Tuesday that although artificial intelligence tools may eventually help companies protect themselves from cyberattacks, they are making them more vulnerable at first.<\/p>\n<p>Dimon said JPMorgan was testing Anthropic&#8217;s latest model &#8211; Mythos Preview <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/glasswing\">announced<\/a> by the AI \u200b\u200bfirm last week \u2013 as part of its broader effort to reap the benefits of AI while protecting against bad actors using similar technology.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;AI has made it worse, it has made it harder,&#8221; Dimon told analysts on the bank&#8217;s earnings call Tuesday morning. &#8220;It creates additional weaknesses, and perhaps in the future, better ways to strengthen ourselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When a reporter asked about Mythos, Dimon mentioned Anthropic&#8217;s warning that the model had already found thousands of vulnerabilities in corporate software.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think you read exactly what it is,&#8221; Dimon said. &#8220;This shows that a lot of weaknesses need to be addressed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The comments reveal how artificial intelligence, a technology that has been welcomed by corporations as a productivity boon, has turned into a serious threat by giving bad actors new ways to hack into technology systems. Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant called bank CEOs into a meeting to discuss the risks posed by Mythos.<\/p>\n<p>JPMorgan, the world&#8217;s largest bank by market cap, has invested heavily over the years to stay ahead of threats, with dedicated teams and constant coordination with government agencies, Dimon said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We spend a lot of money. We have top experts. We are in constant touch with the government,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a full-time job, and we&#8217;re doing it all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"ArticleBody-subtitle\">&#8216;Attack Mode&#8217;<\/h2>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Still, the CEO warned that given the interconnected nature of the financial system, the risks could extend well beyond any single institution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t mean that everything the banks rely on is well protected,&#8221; Dimon said. &#8220;Banks &#8230; are linked to exchanges and everything else that creates other layers of risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Barnum, JPMorgan&#8217;s chief financial officer, said the industry has long known that AI cuts both ways when it comes to cybersecurity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These tools can make vulnerabilities easier to find, but then can also potentially be deployed in attack mode by bad actors,&#8221; Barnum said on the earnings call. Recent advances by Anthropic and others have further accelerated the existing trend, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dimon also said that advanced AI tools are important, but old-school cybersecurity practices are essential.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of it is hygiene&#8230;how do you protect your data?
