{"id":69433,"date":"2026-04-16T07:13:42","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T07:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christiancorner.us\/index.php\/2026\/04\/16\/tobagos-teen-archery-champion-aims-for-sustainability-goals-global-issues\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T07:14:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T07:14:21","slug":"tobagos-teen-archery-champion-aims-for-sustainability-goals-global-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christiancorner.us\/index.php\/2026\/04\/16\/tobagos-teen-archery-champion-aims-for-sustainability-goals-global-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Tobago&#8217;s teen archery champion aims for sustainability goals &#8211; Global Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>At the age of 17 and coaching archers three times her age on her home Caribbean island of Tobago, Ms. Lewis transferred the confidence and skills she gained from sport to advocacy and diplomacy, places where youth, especially girls, often struggle to make their voices heard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest challenge has to be my age,\u201d she said, highlighting a cultural norm passed down to many young Caribbean people, \u201conly speak when you are spoken to\u201d and \u201cleave the big discussions to the older people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sport has helped him overcome these obstacles: &#8220;Archery gives you the discipline to keep going,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-with-caption\"><figcaption>\n<p>united nations<\/p>\n<p>Anthurium Lewis receives top prize in archery competition.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now, Ms. Lewis wants to use her platform as a youth leader for the United Nations <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/sustainable-development-goals\/\">sustainable development goals<\/a> (SDG) \u2013 The internationally agreed goal is to promote peace and prosperity for people and the planet \u2013 to show that young people can lead change when the world makes space for their voices and equips them with the right skills.<\/p>\n<p>He believes that play is one of the most powerful ways to develop these skills.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Kids can do it&#8217;<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"pull-quote pull-right\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our say. We have intelligence. There is also our passion behind this. You don&#8217;t have to wait until you&#8217;re 25 to fight for a cause&#8230; we can start right now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The most profound change that sport brings is something quieter than a trophy or a title; It starts in the mind.<\/p>\n<p>He believes that 80 percent of archery is the test. <em>mindset<\/em> The self-esteem and discipline that a young person builds transfers to all parts of their life.<\/p>\n<p>However, acknowledging the challenges that other young people face with powerful ideas but getting nowhere, Ms Lewis is encouraging her peers to be confident in their voices.<\/p>\n<p>    &#8220;Children can do it. We have the right to speak out. We have the intelligence. We also have the passion behind it.
