(meaningful news<\/a>) – War Secretary Pete Hegseth said Thursday that the U.S. military is prepared to attack Iran’s energy infrastructure if Iran does not agree to a peace deal. <\/p>\n

“If Iran makes bad choices, they will impose blockades and bomb infrastructure, power and energy,” Hegseth said.<\/p>\n

Hegseth spoke to reporters along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kane and Admiral Brad Cooper and provided the latest information on the US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz as negotiators settle on a peace deal. <\/p>\n

The US blockade of Iranian ports went into effect on Monday. Kane said more than 10,000 sailors and airmen are enforcing the blockade using ships, planes and helicopters. <\/p>\n

The military fires warning shots at any ship approaching the blockade, leaving open the possibility of boarding the ship. So far the US military has not boarded any ship. The US military has turned back 13 ships under blockade, Kane said. <\/p>\n

“Any ship that crosses the blockade will result in our sailors executing a pre-planned strategy to bring forces to that ship and, if necessary, board and take possession of that ship,” Cain said. <\/p>\n

Hegseth issued a warning to Iran during the press conference. He criticized the Islamic Republic for declining military capabilities. <\/p>\n

“You have no defense industry, no ability to replenish your offensive or defensive capabilities. You only have what you have. You know that. And we know you can move things around, but you can’t really rebuild. You can dig out for now, but you can’t restructure. But we can,” he said.<\/p>\n

Kane clarified that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz only targets ships entering or exiting Iranian ports, regardless of nationality. <\/p>\n

“The US action is a blockade of Iran’s coastline, not a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz,” Cain said. <\/p>\n

Hegseth called on allies in Europe and Asia to assist the United States in the blockade of Iranian ports. He did not take the name of any particular country. Hegseth and President Donald Trump have been critical of the United Kingdom and France for not providing military assistance in the conflict. <\/p>\n

“We must live in a world where not just the United States Navy but other countries can protect waterways,” Hegseth said. \u201cOther allies need to invest in their capabilities so they can project power and perform basic tasks like clearing the strait.\u201d<\/p>\n
